What Your Referee Will See and Need to Do
When you request a Referee Verification, your former boss or HR contact gets a secure link. This article explains exactly what they see — so you can tell them in advance and make it easy for them to help you.
Tell your referee first
Before you send the request, give your referee a quick heads-up — by phone, text, or chat:
"Hi [name], I am applying for an overseas job through Cirrus. I have given them your email so they can verify the job I had with you. You will get an email or text with a link. It only takes about 2 minutes. Thanks so much."
This makes them more likely to act quickly and not delete the email as spam.
What they will receive
The referee gets a short message with:
- A secure link that only opens for them.
- Your name and the job title you have asked them to verify.
- The employer name (their company).
- The dates you say you worked there.
What they will see when they tap the link
A clean web page with:
- A short explanation of what they are confirming.
- The pre-filled details: your name, job title, dates, duties.
- Buttons to agree that the details are correct, edit anything wrong, or decline.
- A box to add a short comment about your work (optional).
- A field to type their name as a digital signature.
- An option to upload a signed letter instead, if they prefer paper.
What they need to do
- Read the details.
- Agree, edit, or decline.
- Add a short comment if they want (this is great for you — even one sentence helps).
- Type their name and tap Submit.
That is it. The whole process takes 2–5 minutes.
What about privacy?
- The referee only sees the details you have asked them to confirm — they do not see your other documents, applications, or score.
- The link is secure and expires after a short time.
- Their comment and signature are stored safely with your record.
Will Cirrus contact them again?
Only if there is a problem with the form (for example, they accidentally missed a step). They will not be added to a marketing list.
Tip: A short positive comment from a referee is gold. Encourage your referee to add a sentence — even something like "Juan was reliable and a hard worker" makes a big difference.
