The 6 Stages of Your Application Explained

Every overseas job application moves through six stages. Knowing what each stage means helps you understand where you are and what to do next.

The six stages

  1. Application — You have applied. The employer has your details.
  2. Qualifying — We check that you meet the basic requirements (skills, documents, work history).
  3. Evaluation — Deeper checks: interviews, skills assessments, background.
  4. Selection — The employer reviews finalists and chooses who to offer the job to.
  5. Processing — Visa, medical, contract signing, and final paperwork.
  6. Deployment — Travel and starting your new job overseas.

Stage 1: Application

What happens: Your application is submitted to the employer. They can see your profile, OES score, and documents.

What you can do:

  • Make sure your profile is complete.
  • Upload your Resume and Passport if you have not already.

Stage 2: Qualifying

What happens: Cirrus or the employer checks your basic qualifications. They look at your work experience, your documents, and your assessment scores.

What you can do:

  • Take the Skills Self-Assessment if you have not yet.
  • Make sure all your required documents are uploaded.
  • Reply quickly to any messages or tasks.

Stage 3: Evaluation

What happens: This is where you may be invited to an interview or asked to record a Work Video. The employer wants to see and hear you.

What you can do:

  • Practice with the AI Interview Simulator.
  • Take an AI Interview Screening if available to you.
  • Record a Work Video showing your skills.

Stage 4: Selection

What happens: The employer reviews everyone who passed Evaluation and picks the best fit. This is the "decision" stage.

What you can do:

  • Wait patiently — this stage can take a few days to a few weeks.
  • Make sure your contact details are correct in case the employer wants to call.

Stage 5: Processing

What happens: You have been chosen. Now Cirrus helps you with the visa, the medical exam, the contract, and other paperwork.

What you can do:

  • Sign the Recruitment Service Agreement (RSA) when asked.
  • Book the Medical Exam at an accredited clinic.
  • Provide any extra documents requested.

Stage 6: Deployment

What happens: The visa is approved, your flight is booked, and you are getting ready to leave. You may be asked to attend a Pre-deployment Seminar.

What you can do:

  • Finish the Pre-deployment Seminar course in the Candidate Readiness Kit.
  • Pack and prepare for your trip.
  • Stay in touch with your Cirrus contact.

Tip: Each stage may take days or weeks. If you have not heard anything in a while, check the Applications page for messages and tasks.
