Skills Assessment

The Skills Snapshot is a short online self-assessment where you rate your own skill levels for your trade or job. Your results are saved to your profile so employers can quickly see what you're capable of.

Why it matters
  • It earns you 50 OES points.
  • Employers use it to short-list candidates.
  • It takes approximately 5 minutes to complete.
How to take the Skills Snapshot
  1. Sign in to the portal.
  2. Open the Profile page or look for Build your Skills Profile in your Next Best Tasks.
  3. Tap Start.
  4. Read each question and pick the best answer.
  5. Be honest — answer questions base on your knowledge to help us determine your skills.
  6. Tap Submit at the end.

Tip: Answer as you would in a real conversation with an employer. There are no trick questions.

What happens to my answers? Your Skills Snapshot answers are private to your profile and are never shared with employers without your knowledge. Only the summarised result visible on your document card is shown to employers.
  • Your answers are saved in your profile.
  • A summary appears on your Skills Snapshot document card.
  • Employers can see the result.
  • You earn points right away.
Why it might be marked as needing revision If your Skills Snapshot is marked for revision, you will be notified in your portal dashboard and your Next Best Tasks list will be updated with steps to resolve it.
  • You skipped questions.
  • A reviewer noticed a significant mismatch between your answers and your work history — for example, you rated yourself as an expert in a skill that does not appear on your resume. To resolve this, complete your resume first, then retake the Skills Snapshot.
