Recording and Submitting Work Videos

A Work Video is a short video that shows employers what you can actually do. It is one of the strongest ways to stand out — and it earns you 100 OES points.

What a great Work Video shows

  • You doing your trade or work — for example, welding a joint, framing a wall, driving a vehicle, cooking in a kitchen.
  • A clear view of your hands and the work.
  • Good light and steady camera.
  • A short introduction — say your name, your trade, and what you are about to do.

What you do not need

  • Expensive equipment — your phone is enough.
  • Long videos — short and clear is best.
  • Music or fancy editing.

How to record

  1. Find a safe spot where you can do your work without interruption.
  2. Ask a friend to hold the phone, or stand it on a stable surface.
  3. Hold the phone horizontally (sideways) — this looks more professional.
  4. Press record.
  5. Say a clear introduction: "Hi, I am Juan dela Cruz. I am a carpenter with 5 years of experience. I am going to show you how I cut and join a roof beam."
  6. Do the work in front of the camera.
  7. End by thanking the viewer.

Tip: Wear your normal work clothes and any safety gear (helmet, gloves, safety boots). It makes you look professional and safe.

How long should the video be?

  • 30 seconds to 2 minutes is best.
  • Anything longer is hard for an employer to watch.

How to upload

  1. Open the Tools page.
  2. Tap Work Videos.
  3. Tap Upload a video.
  4. Pick the file from your phone.
  5. Add a title (for example, "Roof beam joinery").
  6. Add a short description — what skill you are showing.
  7. Tap Submit.

You can upload more than one video. Some candidates have a small library showing different parts of their trade.

Putting your videos in order

If you have several videos, you can put them in the order you want employers to see them. Drag them on the Work Videos page to change the order. Put your strongest video first.

Finalizing

Once you have all the videos you want, tap Finalize. This locks them in for employers to view. You can still add more later.

Tips for the best Work Video

  • Light from the side, not behind you.
  • Steady camera — use a tripod or a stable surface.
  • Clean background — no clutter or unrelated people.
  • Be confident, not nervous. Smile at the start.
  • Say what you are doing as you go. This helps employers who do not know your trade.
