My Camera/Microphone Isn't Working in the Interview Simulator

The AI Interview Simulator needs your camera and microphone to record your answers. If they are not working, here is how to fix it.

Step 1: Allow permission

When the simulator first opens, you should be asked to allow access to your camera and microphone. If you tapped Block or Don't allow by mistake, you need to switch it back on.

Two screens side by side: the in-page browser permission prompt with Allow and Block buttons, and the iPhone Settings → Safari panel showing Camera and Microphone both set to Allow

On Android (Chrome)

  1. Open Chrome.
  2. Tap the lock icon (or three dots) next to the portal address.
  3. Tap Permissions or Site settings.
  4. Set Camera and Microphone to Allow.
  5. Refresh the page.

On iPhone (Safari)

  1. Go to Settings.
  2. Scroll down and tap Safari.
  3. Tap Camera — set to Allow or Ask.
  4. Tap Microphone — set to Allow or Ask.
  5. Reopen the portal in Safari.

On a computer (Chrome)

  1. Click the lock icon in the address bar.
  2. Set Camera and Microphone to Allow.
  3. Refresh the page.

Step 2: Check the system permission

Sometimes the browser permission is enabled but the operating system is still blocking camera or microphone access. Follow the steps for your device.

On Android

  1. Go to Settings.
  2. Tap AppsChrome (or whatever browser you use).
  3. Tap Permissions.
  4. Make sure Camera and Microphone are Allowed.

On iPhone

  1. Go to Settings.
  2. Tap Privacy & Security.
  3. Tap Camera — make sure Safari is on.
  4. Tap Microphone — make sure Safari is on.

Step 3: Close other apps that might be using the camera

If WhatsApp, Zoom, Messenger, or another camera app is running, close it. Only one app can use the camera at a time.

Step 4: Restart your phone

A simple restart often fixes camera and microphone issues.

Step 5: Check that nothing is covering the camera or mic

  • Remove any case or screen protector that might block the camera.
  • Make sure your finger is not covering the microphone hole.

Step 6: Try a different browser or device

  • On Android, try Chrome.
  • On iPhone, use Safari (Chrome on iPhone may have limited support for camera/mic — check your browser version for current compatibility).
  • If it still does not work on your phone, try a computer with a webcam.

Step 7: Test your camera and mic outside the portal

Open the camera app on your phone. Take a photo. Record a short video and play it back to check the sound. If your phone's own camera does not work, the issue is with the phone, not the portal.

Step 8: Contact support

If none of the steps above resolve the issue, contact Cirrus support. To help us diagnose the problem quickly, include the following information in your message:

  • Your phone make and model.
  • Your browser name and version.
  • A note saying which step you tried last.
