How do you prepare for an interview?

Learn how to prepare effectively for your interview to make a strong impression and improve your chances of success.

Preparing for your interview is an important step in your application. Being ready helps you present yourself confidently and increases your chances of moving forward in the process.

Prepare yourself

  • Review your work experience, skills, and qualifications

  • Be ready to clearly explain your previous roles and responsibilities

  • Practice answering common interview questions

  • Ensure you are well-rested and on time for your interview

Your communication skills and confidence will also be assessed during the interview.

Research the employer

Before your interview, take time to learn about the company:

  • Understand what the company does

  • Learn about their industry, services, or products

  • Be familiar with the role you are applying for

This shows your interest and helps you answer questions more effectively.

Prepare questions

It is a good idea to prepare a few questions for the employer, such as:

  • What are the expectations for this role?

  • What does a typical workday look like?

  • What are the opportunities for growth?

Asking questions shows that you are engaged and interested in the opportunity.

Dress appropriately

Your appearance is important and should match the type of interview:

For face-to-face interviews or CRT:

  • Wear proper and presentable attire

  • If a trade test is included, wearing full PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) is appreciated

For online interviews:

  • Wear a collared shirt or smart casual attire

  • Ensure you look neat and professional on camera

During the interview

  • Be polite, confident, and professional

  • Listen carefully and answer questions clearly

  • Maintain a positive attitude — a simple smile can make a good impression

Preparing well helps you stand out and gives you the best chance to succeed in your interview.
