How do I navigate airport procedures as an OFW?

Follow these steps to ensure a smooth airport process, from document preparation to boarding your flight.

The airport process for Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) ensures that you have the correct documents and clearances to travel abroad legally.

Your Overseas Employment Certificate (OEC) is an important document that allows you to:

  • Exit the Philippines as an OFW

  • Be exempt from travel tax and terminal fees (if applicable)

  • Pass through designated OFW lanes at the airport

Why it matters

Following the correct airport procedures helps you:

  • Avoid delays during check-in and immigration

  • Ensure your OEC is verified and accepted

  • Have a smooth and stress-free departure

When does it apply?

This applies when:

  • You are leaving the Philippines for your overseas employment

This does not apply to:

  • Domestic flights

  • Personal or non-employment travel

How does it work?

Follow these steps at the airport:

  1. Prepare your documents

    • Keep your passport, visa, ticket, and OEC ready

  2. Proceed to the OFW lane or entrance

    • Follow signs for OFW or international departures

  3. Check-in counter

    • Present your passport and ticket

    • Receive your boarding pass

  4. Currency exchange (optional)

    • Convert Philippine Peso to Australian Dollars (AUD) if needed

    • Do this before proceeding to immigration

  5. Immigration / OFW lane

    • Present your OEC for verification

    • Answer questions from the Immigration Officer clearly and politely

  6. Security check

    • Go through the standard security screening

  7. Proceed to your boarding gate

    • Check your assigned gate and wait for boarding

What should you do now?

  • Make sure your passport, visa, and OEC are valid and ready

  • Arrive at the airport early to allow time for all procedures

  • Follow airport signs and use OFW lanes when available
